CHILDHOOD

While working on my Adulthood design for my husband, my son looked at it and said, “Mom, this design leaves kids out. How about a CHILDHOOD?” Yes, of course! This design is truly the offspring version of my Adulthood design: it is worked in worsted weight acrylic and can be easily laundered in the washer and dryer. The gauge and thickness provide ample wind protection for outdoor play. Just like its Adulthood counterpart, CHILDHOOD is constructed in join-as-you-go garter stitch to create clean lines, and the entire construction is seamless.

My son and I worked together on the proportions to create a design well-suited to a day of playground play or a neighborhood hike. It’s no surprise that my son loves his CHILDHOOD, and we hope you like it, too.

YARN
I used worsted weight acrylic (Knitpicks Brava Worsted, 100% Acrylic, 219 yd (200 m) per 100 g) for this design as it creates a dense, washable fabric and comes in a huge range of colors! Worsted weight wool or acrylic or sock yarn held double will work great for this design.
2 colors needed: MC: 193 yd / 176 m required (88 g), CC: 70 yd / 64 m required (32 g)
The sample shown used Knitpicks Brava Worsted in Solstice Heather for MC and miscellaneous red sock yarn scraps held double for CC.

DIMENSIONS
Overall height: 13.25” (34 cm)
Face opening height: 10” (25 cm)
Bottom circumference: 20” (51 cm) around
Front Band height: 3.75” (9.5 cm)
Front Band width: 2.75” (7 cm)
Center Stripe width: 2.75” (7 cm)

Dimensions are easily adjustable. Size provided fits child to adult heads (approximately 19”-23” / 48-58 cm) with a snug fit under the chin. The front band serves as a cowl. My elementary school-aged son has a 21” (53 cm) head.
