SEASONALITY

One of my favorite ways to use 2 colors of yarn is knitting stripes. Simple, effective, and it allows each color to shine on its own. KEEP ON STRIPING uses 2-color stripes with just one more row energy. This design is a fun way to stretch a special skein, such as a handspun treasure, by alternating with a coordinating tonal. The intuitive rhythm and texture are engaging and totally reversible, and integrated icord edges create polished details. Finished size is adjustable based on yarn available.

YARN – COLOR 1
Downstage Sock by Theatre Kid Yarns, 80% Superwash Merino, 20% Nylon, 400 yd / 366 m per 100 g or similar fingering weight yarn. https://theatrekidyarns.com/
Sample shown in colorway Parsnip, 320 yd / 293 m (80 g).

YARN – COLOR 2
2-ply handspun yarn, 100% BFL 392 yd / 358 m per 105 g
Sample used 306 yd / 280 m (82 g).

This shawl is designed to showcase 2 colors of yarn. Sample is shown in a fingering weight tonal color and a 2-ply fingering to sport weight color changing handspun yarn. Choose higher or lower contrast colors as you prefer.

This design has flexible sizing and can be adapted for different weights of yarn. Sample shown used fingering weight yarn and 2-ply sport weight handspun yarn. I suggest working with 100-200 g of fingering to DK weight yarn for this piece, adjusting needle size and number of repeats to accommodate available yarn. A gram scale is recommended for this design.

DIMENSIONS
Length: 98” / 249 cm
Depth at center 14” / 36 cm

Adjustments to yarn weight and gauge will result in different dimensions, and it’s going to be fantastic no matter what!

GAUGE & NEEDLES
19 stitches and 38 rows = 4” / 10 cm pattern, blocked
Gauge is not critical but will impact finished size and yarn requirements.
US 4 / 3.5 mm circular needle, minimum length 16” / 40 cm or size needed to get gauge

Working with a different weight of yarn? No problem! Gauge will differ, but the concept of the design remains the same! Adjust needle size per preferred gauge.

TECHNIQUES
Knit stitch, icord cast-on, icord edging, icord bind-off, basic increases and decreases
