Designed in collaboration with my amazing son, and released for his birthday.

“Mom, can you knit me a cape? With stripes up and down in the middle and wings on the side? And can I tie it on and FLY?”

Modular construction, easily customizable for multiple sizes and colors. I have included a lot of photos and a lot of text… so be prepared! My test knitters and I tried different yarn weights and a mix of colors. The pattern is easily customizable.

YARN
DK, Worsted, or Aran weight yarn, approximately 250 – 350 yards (229 – 320 m)

DIMENSIONS
11.5″ (29 cm) wide at top, 19.5″ (50 cm) wide at bottom, 19″ (48 cm) tall
Cape is designed to fit kids ages 2+. Dimensions are easily modifiable.

GAUGE & NEEDLES
16 stitches and 32 rows = 4″ (10 cm) in garter stitch knit flat
US 8 (5.0 mm) or size needed to get gauge

TECHNIQUES
Provisional cast-on, knit stitch, increasing stitches, applied icord, 3-needle bind-off

PATTERN ATTRIBUTES
This design is a written pattern with photo tutorials, a schematic, and includes a blank coloring page. Size is easily adjustable.
